The new Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA) will commence operations on 1 January 2009

On 1 January 2009, the Swiss Federal Banking Commission (SFBC), the Federal Office of Private Insurance (FOPI) and the Anti-Money Laundering Control Authority (AML Control Authority) will merge into one single authority, the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA). The Federal Act on the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority that will come into full legal force on 1 January 2009 constitutes the legal basis for the FINMA.
